Uppsala

Uppsala was called formerly Östra Aros. At the 11th century, it was a commercial counter, close to the first city : Gamla Uppsala.

The city counts 184500 inhabitants today. One can recognizes it from far away by its cathedral and its imposing castle which overhangs the city. It is the ecclesiastical capital of Sweden and the oldest university pole of Scandinavia.

Uppsala is crossed by a river : Fyrisån on which a procession of boats built by students is held during Valborgmässafton which celebrates the arrival of spring at the end of April (photographs to come).
